Catherine Rondeau is a Montreal based fine art photographer specialized in the creation of digital photomontages. Her dreamlike images blur the boundaries between reality and fiction as they portray children and teenagers negotiating their place in improbable situations. Favoring natural light when shooting her base material, the artist then uses the computer to seamlessly layer and fuse different photos together, a process from which emerges a whimsical form of storytelling. Working with her own children as models in unusual settings contributes to the unique combination of complicity and surprise that characterizes Rondeau’s distinctive photographic style. “I used to be a straight black and white street photographer. I started dabbling with Photoshop when my girls were at that magical age when monsters were turning up under the bed and they had conversations with the cat. I wanted to illustrate the impact imaginary play had on their lives. Once I discovered the excitement of combining photos to create surreal worlds, there was no turning back!” Catherine Rondeau earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in photography from Montreal's Concordia University and a Master’s degree in Communication from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). Her work is attracting increasing attention and has been shown in several solo exhibitions in Québec. WEBSITE catherinerondeau.com http://catherinerondeau.com/?lang=en |
