Gerhard Ernst Hasse
(Mar 5, 1930 - Feb 17, 2021)

Gerhard Hasse was a long-time member of the Montreal Camera Club. For more information, please click here to read the Gazette notice.

He passed away on February 17, 2021 from complications associated with COVID-19.
A man of many talents and passions - including speaking six languages fluently - he loved to travel the globe with a camera or two on his shoulder and 40 rolls of film in his bag seeking out the perfect lighting balance and composition for incredible landscape photos in countries that spanned the globe from his homeland of Austria to Zambia and more than 60 countries in between. He would proudly showcase his talented work to family, friends, at photographic exhibitions, and having his incredible art published in renowned magazines.

Matthew Cope
1946- 2021

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Matthew Cope on January 13, 2021, after falling into a coma last weekend. He was 74.

Although Matthew joined the Montreal Camera Club a few years ago, he demonstrated a passion for his photography, spending time combing the streets of Montreal and other cities to capture the offbeat on camera. One of his very proud moments was when his friend, Aislin, used his photography of Leonard Cohen.

OBITUARY: ANN PEARSON
(1935 - 2020)

OBITUARY FROM "THE GAZETTE"
https://montrealgazette.remembering.ca/obituary/ann-pearson-1079218990
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ann Pearson on May 14, 2020, just two weeks shy of her 85th birthday.

Ann was very involved with the McGill Centre for Lifelong Learning, both as a member of their Committee and in giving numerous lectures. Up until recently, Ann, a member of the Westmount Historical Association, was photographing the guest speakers on their behalf.

After joining the Montreal Camera Club in 2005, it didn't take long for Ann to jump in and volunteer on our Executive Committee. For the last 7 years as Program Chair and 1st Vice-President, Ann provided us with exceptional programming. Her years of connections in the fields of art, photography, and education enabled Ann to invite fascinating speakers, and to provide challenging workshops for our members. As an educator, she loved to teach the spirit and creativity of photography with her numerous Essay Presentations given over the years.
Ann revamped the MCC Opening Night presentations. For fun and creativity, she also created  "What Did You Do Last Summer" and "Holiday Cards".  Ann also introduced "Open Mic" night which was very well received by our members. In addition, Ann moderated judging sessions at her home and later created a guideline for our recent CAPA judging tutorials. She very much enjoyed the Club's outings with members.

For the Club's 125th Anniversary, Ann was instrumental in organizing the MCC exhibit at the McClure Gallery and the Gallery at Victoria Hall, as well as holding her own individual exhibits. All of these exhibitions provided great exposure for MCC. Her energy, interests, and enthusiasm were unparalleled.

Ann's photographic works leaned towards the abstract, displaying a mastery of form and colour.

Ann made her experience and advice available to any who sought her out. Her passing is a huge loss for the MCC. She will be greatly missed.

OBITUARY: NADA MAYLA
 April 29, 2020
Nada will be greatly missed at the Montreal Camera Club. She had such spirit and it was so great to have her around. She would sometimes stand up and cheer as we received our ribbons or awards. She would insist upon truly celebrating each and every holiday. She brought such life to the club and she was loved! It was also great to see how her photography improved over the time that we were blessed to have her as part of the club. Sending my deepest sympathies and love to Lilian her wonderful mother, and to her family and friends. (written by Ilana Block)

OBITUARY: MORTIMER LEVY
 October 29, 2019

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Mortimer Levy, a long-time member of the Montreal Camera Club on Tuesday, October 29, 2019.   He was 91.

Morty was a member of the club for many years, up until only several years ago, and was a very pleasant presence at the club, with a great sense of humour, a wonderful disposition, and a keen eye. He had a great love for life, a love that he shared with everyone. Morty’s wife Pearl is an excellent and established sculptor, and a frequent participant in art exhibitions, in which Morty also sometimes participated with his photography.

Morty’s other passion besides photography was sailing, where he and Pearl would often sail their sailboat around Lake Ontario and Lake Champlain, accompanied by other friends with their own sailboats. Morty also liked to compete in regattas.  He leaves behind a large and loving family who will miss him dearly
