Alain Dahan is a visual artist, photographer, filmmaker and musician living and working in Montreal. He has worked professionally with artists such as James Franco, Halle Berry and Angelina Jolie. His work has been featured on ArtBomb Canada, shown at Masterpieces for MADA, Automobilart, Tom’s shoes for Art & Gallery 203. He is currently exhibiting his latest series entitled, ‘Naked Silver’ at Art Fusion Galleries in the Wynwood Art District in Miami.
Morning Session (9:30 am - 12:30 pm)
Basic studio lighting / working with ONE light. Flash vs. continuous lighting for portrait photography
This will be a 3-hour workshop in a beautiful studio with 2 models & 2 setups. Each participant will get to shoot twice for 10 minutes with each model. Shooting with flash & then shooting with continuous light for a total of 20 minutes of shooting time per participant.
Alain will discuss & demonstrate the different types of looks that you can achieve with one light such as ‘Rembrandt lighting’, ‘clam- shell lighting’ & a couple of different ways to use one light with a reflector to create stunning portraits.
Alain will also be giving an overview on how to quickly create beautiful light with off-camera Speedlites. We will look at how to create soft light and when to use hard light. You will learn about; Off-Camera Triggers. Why Off-Camera flash matters. Where to Position Your Speedlite. And set-ups for Creative Lighting with 1 or 2 Speedlites. This will be a fast-paced demonstration that will quickly introduce you to various ways of creating great light with basic gear.
