Get Ready for the CAPA 2020 - 2021 SeasonDear MCC members,
The 2019-2020 season was a big success. I thank all the selection committees for their collaboration on all of the competitions. I also am so gratified to see an enthusiastic response from our members to this addition to our yearly program. We are now looking ahead to the 2020 - 2021 season. With no MCC meetings until September, this would be an opportune time for all of us to examine the themes for the new year, and go out and shoot, as well as perhaps go through past images and put them into files ready for each competition. In some competitions, RAW files, or the original Jpeg files are required for verification that certain rules are adhered to. DNG files are not acceptable, according to CAPA stipulations. Please note that the CAPA website is now mostly bilingual. Rules may be found at https://capacanada.ca/capa-competitions/current-competitions-2/. Nature photographers should note that you are now not allowed many alterations to your photo except for basic ones, and the original images will be required to be submitted when the winning images are under consideration. A new competition has been included - A Series of four (4) Photos which might require us to start early in photographing in tandem with other photographers. |
The MCC also participates in several external inter-club competitions, nationally through CAPA (Canadian Association for Photographic Art) and provincially with the SPPQ (Société de promotion de la photographie du Québec).
The Montreal Camera Club is a member of the Canadian Association for Photographic Art (CAPA). This organization is comprised of close to 90 member clubs, and over 1,000 individual members who share their love of photography. You are encouraged to check it out. You can compete as part of the MCC without having to join CAPA, or as an individual if you are a CAPA member.
Categories for this season both for Club and Individual participation in CAPA:
Note that even if one is an individual member of CAPA, MCC members may also choose to enter an image for the Club. Submission dates will be announced ahead of time for each competition.

Competitions will provide members with an opportunity to see how we rank in comparison to other Canadian photography clubs as well as link our members to other photographers across Canada. Other benefits will include accessing the publication Canadian Camera online and participating in the annual photography conference.
At this time, I highly suggest that you read carefully the rules and regulations of the CAPA competitions at capacanada.ca/capa-competitions/. As well as the MCC Nature, Pictorial, and Print guidelines, all these may be found on the MCC website.
I will be proud and happy to collaborate with our various division chairs to select our entries. These club competitions are open to both Class A and Class B members. You will be contacted should your image be selected.

I will be available to answer any questions you may have. I hope that this new opportunity will create some buzz and excitement and open up some new avenues for our club!
